Libertarian Party of New Hampshire residential candidate George Phillies today called for an end to the Federal war on hemp. "Hemp could be a valuable cash crop," Phillies said, "whose fibers provide fibers, durable cloth and top line paper. In these difficult economic times, giving New Hampshire farmers new alternative crops may protect family farms across the state."

Hemp is grown commercially in many foreign countries, including Canada, Germany, and China, giving those countries a competitive advantage over the United States. Industrial hemp, not to be confused with the psychoactive marijuana, is not usable as a recreational pharmaceutical--it's the plant that has been used by sailors for thousands of years for ropes and lines. Agriculture Canada reports that hemp grows well even under Canadian conditions, requires no pesticides, yields three or four times as much fiber per acre as trees, and provides a livestock feed stock with more protein per acre than other competitors.

George Phillies was nominated by the Libertarian Party of New Hampshire State Convention to be its candidate for President of the United States. Thanks to the hard work of dozens of volunteers mobilized by that convention, Phillies is on the ballot in New Hampshire.

Phillies is endorsed by Outright Libertarians (the libertarian GLBT political activist group), Pink Pistols (GLBT pro-Second Amendment group), and the Boston Tea Party (new national libertarian-inclined political party whose Presidential candidate, Charles Jay, is on the ballot in several states).
Libertarian Party of New Hampshire Presidential candidate George Phillies today warned that the Paulson bailout plan risks the life of our country. "We just added a trillion dollars to next year's budget deficit," Phillies warned. "Even America can't borrow that much money, not year after year, not without wrecking our credit rating. At some point, interest on the national debt will approach tax revenues, and lenders will shut their door in his face."

"Uncle Sam has a debt addiction," Phillies said. "That's like an eating addiction. Uncle Sam can't stop himself from borrowing, no matter how much he inflates his national debt. That's like the neighbors down the street who can't stop eating, no matter they've gone from three hundred pounds to five hundred pounds. Overeating will kill your neighbor, and overborrowing will in the end kill Uncle Sam, too.

"Like the 400-pound chain-smoker down the street, Uncle Sam is morbidly ill. He desperately needs help from his friends and relatives. He needs a strong dose of New Hampshire thriftiness.

"Only the Libertarian Party will give you the budget cuts that will save us." Phillies said. "The American voter must reform our Uncle Sam's ways, or he will surely die, and take us with him."
Barr is trying to frustrate the will of New Hampshire Libertarians. The
Libertarian State Convention chose me as their nominee in Spring 2007.
Barr's New Hampshire cronies waited through the next Libertarian State
Convention, the petitioning period, and most of the general election

evidence that the suit is actually being funded by a D.C. Libertarian

"I'm extremely grateful to Libertarian U.S. Senate candidate Ken

has betrayed America," Phillies said. "Wall Street played. The
taxpayer gets to pay. This is a colossal transfer of public funds to
to Henry Paulson's banker friends."

"The 700 billion in bailout funds is the cheap part of the plan,"
Phillies noted. "Reality check: Uncle Sam has a huge budget deficit.
That 700 billion had to be borrowed. That's 30 billion a year in
interest payments until we pay the debt off--and we never pay it
off. If you're a typical 35 year old American, over the rest of your
life that's another trillion and more in interest payments.

"That's right. Over the rest of your typical American life, Congress
added 2 trillion in spending, and (the tax cut) 4 trillion in tax
cuts. We'll have to borrow that four trillion, too. It takes very
little more of this, and America becomes another bankrupt banana
republic," Phillies added.

"Many Americans know the truth. How do you spell 'bailout'?
R-I-P-O-F-F. And what can you do about it? This Fall, send Washington
the only message it understands. Vote the ripoff artists out of
office. This Fall, vote Libertarian."

Worcester, Massachusetts. September 4, 2008. New Hampshire Libertarian Presidential candidate George Phillies asked a few pointed questions about Sarah Palin's opening address to the American people: "Sarah Palin gave us plenty of beef. She gave us vehement attacks on Barack Obama. But where was the healthy meal, the substantial proposals to cure our nation's ills?

"The Bush-McCain-Palin attack machine accused Barack Obama of plotting to increase taxes. The Bush-McCain-Palin attack machine told us they promise lower taxes. They talked about every tax except one: the Grandchild Tax, the National Debt.

"For the last half-decade our national debt has soared five hundred billion dollars a year. We spent the money. We're leaving our debts to our grandchildren. That's no way to treat your own grandchildren, and it's no way to treat your country, either. Bush-McCain-Palin offers no solution to the national debt that their Republican party did so much to create.

"Only a Libertarian President will cut Federal spending and pay down the National Debt. Only a Libertarian President will leave to our grandchildren a ship of state that's free of attachments, liens, and third mortgages." Phillies urged New Hampshire voters to support the Libertarian ticket: Phillies, Newell for Governor, Blevens for Senate, Kingsbury and Lapointe for Congress.
End the War

August 15 Libertarian Presidential candidate George Phillies and Vice Presidential running mate Chris Bennett today called for an immediate end to American wars in the Middle East. "We should end the war in Iraq as soon as possible," Bennett said, "and bring out troops home to America." Bennett, 35, now lives with his family in Springfield, Illinois.

"We should stop occupying Afghanistan" Phillies added. "We've spent almost seven years and hundreds of lives searching for Bin Ladin. We've killed thousands of Afghanis, and Mr. Bin Ladin's voice is still heard regularly on the airwaves. It's time for a better approach than 'boots wandering the desert'." Phillies, 61, served in the Army Reserves.

Phillies and Bennett condemned the enormous debts the Iraq and Afghanistan wars are placing on the government. "Those debts aren't being paid," they emphasized. "Every future generation will be buried under the debt burden we're creating today. That debt creates spiralling oil prices, a pathetic balance of payments deficit, and increasing unemployment."

Phillies contrasted the Libertarian stand with his opponents' : "McCain wants 100 years of occupation. Obama wants a bigger army. Look at the National Debt. America can't afford McCain, Obama, and their endless military deficit spending."

"George Bush may claim Bin Ladin hates us for our freedoms," Bennett said, "but Bush's totally wrong war is destroying those freedoms. From warrantless wiretaps to the Guantanamo Bay prison camps, the Bush Republican War Party and its Democratic Party allies are destroying the liberties guaranteed by our Constitution and Bill of Rights. First my concession speech at the National Convention; then some cross notes. The speech:

	Fellow libertarians!

Thank you very much for the last two years. It’s been a wonderful time.

I’ve already given you my advice.

I’m disappointed to note that not one person has asked me to endorse someone they wanted to lose.

	Well, that’s true.

I will not speak ill of a fellow Libertarian.

I will thank and acknowledge Senator Mike Gravel who, when he was a
Democrat, gave our *party* the courtesy of debating a Libertarian. I
will thank Wayne Allyn Root for entering and giving you time to take
his measure and see if he was good or bad.

I will express — I think it’s the gratitude of many of us — very
good things to Mary Ruwart and to Bob Barr for entering the race to do
what they thought was best for the party.

Now, I have two things to say, one as state chair, and one to the audience as much as to anyone else.

And the thing I must say as state chair, because I would be remiss
not to say it, is that a voting majority of my state committee is
neopagan. I have to make that point. Those of you who know why, know
why I have to do it.

Now I want to make the important point:

The enemy is not here. The enemy is out there.

The enemy is not our fellow Libertarians.

The enemy is the far left Democratic Party of Hillary Clinton,
Barack Obama, and — let’s get it right for once — Lyndon LaRouche.

The enemy is not our fellow Libertarians.

The enemy is the conservative death policy of George Bush, George
Wallace, John Sununu, and Lester Maddox, the conservative bigotry
philosophy that is against our country.

We are the Libertarians. We are the party of the future.

However, the Libertarian Party of New Hampshire did petition to put a
Presidential candidate on the ballot. They did that petitioning last
winter and spring using my name. Substitution of Presidential
candidates, once the nominee's name is known, is not permitted in New
Hampshire. I am on the ballot in
New Hampshire and will campaign vigorously for the party.

Also, the Libertarian Party of Massachusetts had begun petitioning,
with the agreement that the named candidate would be replaced on the
November ballot. The Secretary of the Commonwealth, who had last Fall
said that the proposal was legal, has since changed his mind, and says
that substitution is not allowed. Barring the success of various legal maneuvers, I
will also be on the ballot in Massachusetts.

Phillies today gained a running mate. Chris Bennett of Springfield,
Illinois completes the Libertarian Party ticket. "I am delighted to
have Bennett on board," Phillies said. "He is a wonderful campaigner.
His fine Libertarian positions speak for themselves."

Bennett, speaking on his positions, said "I am strongly against the
invasion and the 'police action' in Iraq. I am against a Fair Tax and
I will continue to fight to decrease the tax burden for all Americans.
I will continue to fight to restore our civil liberties and
constitutional rights and fight to eliminate the Patriot Act, the Real
ID Act, and the Military Commissions Act. As an African-American, I
will use my candidacy to recruit more minorities and women into the
libertarian movement. As a recent college graduate, I will continue to
convince younger voters and non-voters that the Libertarian Party is
the future."

Bennett has been a Libertarian Party volunteer since 1991. In 2004 he
was active in the Libertarian Presidential campaigns of Aaron Russo and
Michael Badnarik. He is currently the campaign manager for Larry
Stafford, the Libertarian candidate for US Senate in Illinois, and is
the Libertarian Party of Illinois Legislative Chair. He serves as a
campaign adviser for the Boston Tea Party's Jay/Knapp Presidential
Ticket.

Christopher Dean Bennett, 35 was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1972.
He now lives in Springfield, Illinois with his wife Evonne and children
Charity, 9, and Brandon, 7. Bennett was graduated from the University

For centuries, New Hampshire has led America. In 2008, it's time for

Why vote Libertarian? What's in it for you?

Libertarians will end the Grandchild tax. That's the National Debt.
It's turning our grandchildren into tax slaves. We spent the money. The
National debt sends our bills to our grandchildren. That's just plain
wrong. We should stop doing it. We should cut all Federal spending
until our taxes pay for our spending. And, like sensible families paying off their credit card bills, we should save by paying off the National Debt.

Libertarians won't tell you fairy tales about fuel costs: The world is
changing. There's only so much oil in the world, and more and more
people around the world have enough money to own a car. Their
competition pushes up our fuel bills. Those people around the world
aren't going to change. For New Hampshire, these changes are great
opportunities, opportunities like wood and wind, opportunities that you
can exploit if Libertarians keep Uncle Sam out of your way.

Libertarians believe that your local schools are best run by people in
your community, not by Washington Bureaucrats. We want to repeal No
Child Left Behind. We also respect parents who send their children to
private schools, and parents who make the huge investment needed to
home-school their children. When your school gets Federal money, just
remember: That money came from your wallet. And after it left your wallet for D.C., a lot of it never came back. When you support your
schools locally, your money stays in your community.

Libertarians stand 100% behind the entire Bill of Rights. The Kelo
decision was wrong; the founding fathers didn't create eminent domain to
help private developers take your home. The Second Amendment protects your individual
right to own firearms. Government warrantless wiretaps, which include
most of the telephones in the United States, are grossly illegal. They
should be ended immediately. The people who listened to your private
phone calls without proper search warrants should get fair trials.

Libertarians respect our differences. America belongs equally to every
American. We are all different. Our country was not created for people
of only one race or only one faith. Rich or poor, you have an equal
stake in our country and its future. Our Federal government should not
create rules that treat some of us differently because we make different
decisions about how to make money, how to live, or how to worship.

And if you had heard someone else won the Libertarian Party Presidential Nomination, welcome to the complications of New Hampshire election law. The New Hampshire Libertarian party chose me as their candidate well over a year ago. They've been collecting signatures to put me on the ballot ever since. Now all the paperwork has been filed, so I will be on the ballot.

In some other states, political parties can collect signatures for a stand-in candidate and, when they learn the name of the nominee, can simply replace the stand-in with the real candidate, at great implicit profit to all.

You can't do that in New Hampshire. The person on the ballot must be the person whose name appeared on the nominating papers. The LP of New Hampshire knew in advance: Whoever they named would be on the November ballot.

The act of the New Hampshire Libertarian Party has almost no effect on the winner at the National Convention. Whoever wins in Denver can still collect 3000 signatures and submit a Declaration of Intent with filing fee. If he succeeds, he will also be on the ballot, also as a Libertarian.

Please volunteer for my campaign. My objective is to build our party. Unless you ask otherwise, volunteer names will be shared with the LP of New Hampshire.

Please donate to my campaign. Donations from New Hampshire will all be spent on my New Hampshire campaign to build your party. (Under Federal Law, the campaign must ask donors for their name, address, occupation and employer. Donations to Federal Political Campaigns are not tax-deductible.)

George Phillies for President 2008
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Libertarian Presidential candidate George Phillies today congratulated Californians on their latest step toward freedom, the legalization of gay marriage in California. "It is wonderful to hear that once again our Courts have defended our Constitutional rights," Phillies said. "Once again, our courts have agreed that separate is not and cannot be equal. To to the people of California I say: Thank you for taking another step toward liberty and equality for all. To my civil-union supporting Democratic opponents I have a shorter message: Civil unions are major-party apartheid for GLBTQ people.

The California Supreme Court, ruling on In re Marriage Cases, today found that the California Constitution made clear: If gays and lesbians are allowed a status that was substantially the same as marriage, it may not be given a different name.

"The people of California could have avoided this long and expensive trial," Phillies said, "but their spineless governor, loyal to the conservative philosophy of bigotry, vetoed bills establishing that marriage is for gay as well as straight adults."

"Voters should remember that conservative bigotry can be bipartisan," Phillies continued. "The depraved Defense of Marriage Act was authored by a Republican and passed with bipartisan support. The trail from the terrorist Ku Klux Klan through White Citizens Council to its most recent successor, the Conservative Citizens Council, winds from the Democratic over to the Republican party.

"Americans should cheer the good news that conservative bigotry has been driven back. You can tell when it is losing at the Federal level," Phillies noted, "because conservative bigots start bleating about 'Federalism' and their Jim Crow 'states rights' doctrine. Patriotic Americans know the truth: States have no right to take away your liberties.

"The conservative philosophy of bigotry is a vast tapestry," Phillies said, "but it is all woven from the same thread. No matter whether conservatives are bashing lesbians, banning internet gambling, or so shocked by the thought of a woman's breast that they forbid women to breast-feed their hungry infants in public, they are practicing bigotry. Americans should see and reject the bigotry that forms the dark heart and soul of conservative thought."
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Phillies: Time to End the Wars

Worcester, Mass., May 14: "We are at 'war' with everything, it seems," said Libertarian Presidential hopeful George Phillies in a statement earlier today. "We have the War on Iraq. The War on the Constitution. The War on (some, but not other) drugs. The War on Guns. The War on Science. It's time to end these wars."

Phillies outlined the cost of all the various "wars" the United States is fighting, pointing out that a baby born today can expect to be responsible for at least $200,000 of government debt. "We must change, or we will go broke," he emphasized.

He not only spoke about the war on Iraq, which he said should be ended "already," but about the failures of prohibition and the parallels in the war on drugs. "The War on Drugs leaves two million Americans in prison, and insures that millions of others will forever have felony records for smoking the wrong dried leaf. That's millions of Americans whose lifetime participation in our thriving economy will be pointlessly hindered. The War on Drugs, and specifically on marijuana, is racist to the core, with selective enforcement and a racial double standard on jail time. The war on drugs means that pot smugglers, like the booze smugglers of the prohibition era, settle marketing disputes with guns. Ending booze prohibition meant no more Saint Valentine's Day massacres. Ending drug prohibition will end battles that accidentally kill innocent children."

He went on to discuss the battle over gun control. "The war on guns endangers the lives and safety of millions of Americans. In America, home invasion--breaking into an occupied home to rob and assault the occupants--is very rare. In England, it's common. That's because Americans own guns, so home invasion is potentially a suicidal act. That's why European tyrants try to disarm their subjects; victim disarmament means your secret police can live to enjoy their pensions. Ending efforts to disarm Americans will make America safer and less crime-ridden, while protecting the civil liberties for which George Washington's volunteer army gave their lives.

"No real Libertarians disagree," he added. "Even Senators Obama and McCain voted for the Vitter Amendment banning firearms confiscation.

"Not only is it time to end all these wars," said Dr. Phillies, "but it's time to stop thinking in terms of 'war' every time we have a problem to solve. Except for Iraq, these are not wars, and we cheapen the sacrifice of those who fight on our behalf in real wars by calling them such. War is a tool of statecraft reserved for the most desperate circumstances, not a word to be lightly applied to every problem."
